Epoxy garage flooring is an excellent investment. Not only does it look beautiful, but it’s also easy to maintain. While occasionally sweeping and mopping is all you’ll need to do, you may be wondering which cleaning solutions are safest for your coated garage floor.

The good news is, you don’t need to use harsh chemicals to keep your coated flooring looking great. We're celebrating the Earth by providing a couple of environmentally friendly ways to clean your coated garage floor.

1. Diluted Ammonia

Since mopping epoxy floors with soap can create a hazy build-up over time, we recommend cleaning your coated floors with a solution of 8 parts water and 1 part clear ammonia. This is an excellent way to deep-clean your epoxy floors. It’s recommended that you mop your floors with this solution once or twice a month to remove grease and residue buildup.
Since accidents sometimes happen, you’ll be glad to know that this solution will also remove most stains. For deep stains, you can use a nylon brush and either diluted ammonia or a natural cleaning solution. However, you’ll want to proceed with caution. If you apply too much force while scrubbing the stain, you may damage the floor’s gloss coating.

2. Hot Water

It’s possible that you may spill something on your epoxy floor that has a deglossing effect. If this happens, you may be able to remove the spill using hot water and a deck brush. In many cases, the spill will easily come off, restoring your floor to its previous beauty.

A Word of Warning

While it’s great to use natural cleaners whenever you can, you’ll want to avoid using anything on your epoxy floor that contains citrus or vinegar. Both contain acids that can degrade your epoxy floor, causing it to lose its glossy finish over time.
